Quite a mouthful

This little Song Sparrow must have gone to the buffet table to grab some food for his young-uns, because it has several different (i.e., different species) food items in its bill.  Something for everyone in the nest, it would seem.

What all have you got there?

Amazingly, the bird kept chirping at me, continuously, until I finally spotted it. Meanwhile, its mate was chirping away in another location nearby. Not a great way to keep the nest location a secret.

Can anyone identify any of these prey items?

  1. Wow. Those are impressive shots. I can’t identify the types of prey items, but there look to be a caterpillar, a spider, and some other bugs, quite a haul for a single trip. Maybe the babies are picky eaters already and each wants a different item.
