Joy to the world

Spring has finally come!

And this Song Sparrow is letting us know it.  He posed in perfect position for me for several minutes, while I admired his vocalizations.

When he starts his song, his beak is wide open as he blasts out the first notes

Near the end of his song, a buzzing trill is produced with the beak more closed.

Song sparrows must have dialects, because they definitely sound different from region to region.  My little friend sounded nothing like the sample songs you hear on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s website (sound library)

He is a handsome guy and he knows it.

  1. Wonderful photos! Very artistic. Love that perch and background…and the bird is a beauty! Don’t you just live it when such a beautiful little creature poses and sings for you? 😉

  2. Hi there. I love the Song Sparrow on the branch looking to the left. Are your photos copyrighted or are they a part of Creative Commons?
