Spring, the rebirth after the long dormancy of winter.  Things coming alive all around us.  Minnesotans can’t wait to get out and celebrate…like this

The wildlife has to adjust to changing landscape on a daily basis — is it frozen or thawed today?

This pond is OK today, the  Scaup, Ring-necked Ducks, Mallards, and Green-winged Teal have discovered (sorry, none of them close enough to be photographed).

But this pond right next door (15 feet away) is completely snow and ice covered.  At the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

Even the swans are confused about where to find their next meal -- the lake is still frozen,and the the cornfield is still snow covered.

So, winter clings to the ground here, but the sun is beating it back, day by day.  Spring is on its way.
